Addiction by Ayako Eye Lacquers WP En Plein Air, Swimming Pool, Rumble Fish, Black Swan

Finally I took the plunge and made my first choices from Kosé's Addiction by Ayako offerings. After seeing so many wonderful reviews and swatches on my favourite blogs and swooning over all the beautiful products and promo pictures, I knew it was only a question of time until I tried this brand. Well, I'm glad I finally tried it, all I can say is why did it take me so long? :-)

The Eye Lacquers WP were released in the Lady of the Lake collection, a nicely edited waterproof collection which included new shades of the eyeliner pencils and these liquid eyeshadows. I purchased four of the nine available colours, three of them because I thought they were unique and one for everyday use. They are packaged in a black lacquered square tube with doe foot applicator.

I really like how they apply, they are very liquid and feel slightly cool but dry well. Not instantaneously, still take a few seconds to dry which may make it tricky to layer but once dried they won't budge. I'd definitely recommend you allow it to fully dry before layering otherwise the finish will be patchy and will start to fall off during the day (I wasn't a happy bunny on the day I tried that look hahaha). But as I said they have an amazing lasting power when set and applied in thin layers. The advantage of taking some time to dry is that you can blend with a brush, this will bring out the sparkles very nicely.

While I chose these colours because they are rather unique if I'm totally honest I'll have to say I was also influenced by the names since Swimming Pool, Rumble Fish and Black Swan are three movies I really liked.
  • En Plein Air (002) it's a sheer pearly beige, a great everyday shade and also lovely with strong eyeliner.
  • Swimming Pool (006) is green-grey with multi-coloured sparkle. This is the shade used in the promotional picture - it's meant to represent the shine of water surfaces.
  • Rumble Fish (008) is red with subtle gold sparkle. I love this colour, looks fabulous with green eyes.
  • Black Swan (009) is black with silver sparkle, super shiny and gorgeous for smoky eyes.

I managed to resist the other shades even though I was tempted by Mermaid Splash and Tortoiseshell. This blog has lovely swatches of all of them (and a very innovative idea of using the leg to swatch all the colours together!):

Now I think my next experiences by Addiction will be the eyeshadows and the kohl eyeliners from the Desert Rose collection! Have you tried Addiction? What are your thoughts on the brand?

    1. Hi MakeupRemasteredbyJo :-)

The only two places I've seen Addiction up for sale was on www.mihokoshop.com [free shipping with 20,000 JPY spend or you pay a fee of 1,500 JPY for shipping] or www.ichibankao.com [free shipping; 700 JPY for EMS] Both have a substancial mark-up, for example the powder eyeshadows retail for 2,100 JPY and those stores charge 3,200 JPY. I heard that if you navigate the japanese yahoo sites you can find auctions for cheaper prices, but the cheapest way is to ask someone to do a custom purchase.

I wrote some details on those shops in this page: http://www.makeupandthings.com/p/where-i-shop.html

Let me know if you need any more info!
      Thank you for reading xx
